Requirements & Installation

The chapter describes the minimal requirements for using the WinCC OA ULC UX. Depending on the used project architecture these requirements may change and the actual architecture must be adapted to match the project needs. Instructions on how to configure the ULC UX can be found in the chapter Configuration.

CAUTION:

All encrypted connections must use trusted SSL certificates, otherwise connection issues will occur. It is, therefore, necessary to generate SSL certificates, instead of using the certificates included in the installation.

Web Server Requirements

Hardware

  • The recommended hardware requirements for a WinCC OA server must be considered (see Hardware requirements)

Software

  • A correct installation of WinCC OA is required
  • Only the operating systems that are supported by the WinCC OA version can be used (see Software requirements)
  • ULC UX license (determines the maximum number of ULC UX connections)
  • Web server license (required for running the WinCC OA web server)
Note:

ULC UX connections are all connection from a web browser to the web server. Each web browser tab also represents a new ULC UX connection.

Client Requirements

Hardware

  • The minimal recommended hardware requirements for a WinCC OA client must be considered (see Hardware requirements)

Software

  • Only the operating systems that are supported by the WinCC OA version can be used (see Software requirements)
  • A supported web browser must be used.
  • The used certificates must be accepted.
  • The Basic Authentication to the WinCC OA server must not be restricted. ( e.g.: group policy, firewall, ect.)

Network Requirements

  • The network recommendations of the WinCC OA hardware requirements must be considered (see Hardware requirements)
  • The available network bandwidth must be corresponding to the complexity of your WinCC OA project panels.
Note:

If the performance of one web server is not sufficient load balancing can be used with multiple web servers.

RDP (Remote desktop protocol) support

As WinCC OA is platform agnostic (see the number of supported operating systems on Software requirements), the same operations can be performed with the ULC UX via Remote Desktop as if they would be running natively. For technical details regarding RDP directly please refer to the respective OS vendors.
