Copy and Back up Project

A project can be backed up completely by copying the whole project directory in stopped mode. In practice it's recommended to take a look at the configuration file beforehand

<proj_path>/config/config

in order to see if there are sub projects in the configuration file. If there are subprojects, those directories also have to be copied in order to make a backup. For more information about sub projects, see chapter Change project properties.

In order to save space, the backup copies of WinCC OA projects can also be compressed using ZIP (compression) programs. The compression factor is mostly 1:15 or more, so it's worth it.

Consider that the option "Copy empty directories" is activated when using the ZIP program. Otherwise errors could occur after unpacking and reusing, since directories would be missing.

If you want to transfer a project from one computer to another, you can simply copy the whole project directory intoa new target directory (you could also compress the project directory and unpack the zip file on a new computer alternatively). In order to inform WinCC OA about the existence of the additional project, use the "Register new project" button in the project administration and specify the project path.

Alternatively, you can also select an arbitrary project from the network through the "Copy project" button and if necessary save this as new project under a new name. For detailed description of the Project administration functions, see chapter Project Administrator panel.
