Which Dongle Server does WinCC OA support?

WinCC OA supports the SEH Dongle Server product range.

https://www.seh-technology.com/products/usb-dongleserver.html

Please note that the previously supported models (e.g. myUTN-80) are no longer available and have been replaced.

The new models (dongleserver Pro/dongleserver ProMAX) are fully compatible.

You will find the updated information in the current patches of the currently supported WinCC OA versions.

The SEH Dongle Server is even used within ETM internally to provide the necessary (developer) licenses for WIBU CodeMeter.

How do I extend my single system license to a redundant system license?

Open the WinCC OA configurator under https://winccoa.tst.siemens.com. Then configure a system according to your current license configuration. Additionally check the Redundant option.

Now you can export the licenses via the Export tab. As a last step you need to divide the quantity of all options except the "WinCC OA - Redundancy" by 2.

FAQs for the new licensing technology of WinCC OA V3.17+

Question:

Which technology is used for the new licensing?

Answer:

We use Wibu CodeMeter.

Question:

Can I use the previous shield file technology in 3.17?

Answer:

Generally no. If you want to use the video feature, you will currently still receive a shield file.

Question:

Can I use the new technology in previous versions of WinCC OA?

Answer:

No. In version 3.16 and lower, use the shield file. In version 3.17 and higher use CodeMeter.

Question:

Can I use the previous WibuKey Dongles for the new licensing?

Answer:

No, WibuKey is an older product of Wibu. You need to order new (CodeMeter) dongles.

Question:

Can I buy dongles directly from Wibu?

Answer:

No, please order them from us. Wibu only sells them to registered partners (ETM) who have integrated their software. However, you can use the same CodeMeter dongle from another Wibu partner.

Question:

Do I need a live internet connection to activate my license?

Answer:

Yes, but this does not need to be done on the final platform the license will finally run on (e.g. production servers).
See the PowerPoint slides for deployment details of the licenses.

Question:

How can I activate my license when my server is offline?

Answer:

The license can be transferred via files from an online platform to an offline server.

Question:

Can I use the new license technology for virtual machines(VM)?

Answer:

Yes, we now have a much better support for virtualization.

Question:

What if I need to change my hardware?

Answer:

Hardware changes (e.g. hard disk replacement) break the license. Please rehost your license before you change the hardware.

Question:

What does "Rehosting of a license" mean?

Answer:

You can return the license to the central license server, change your platform and reactivate it again on the new platform.

Question:

Do I have to use a dongle?

Answer:

No, you can freely choose between a software license container or a dongle.
The dongle is just a convenient and flexible way for "transporting" the license container.

Question:

Can I use a dongle server?

Answer:

Yes, we recommend the SEH Dongle Server also for the new CodeMeter dongles.

Question:

What if I want to extend my license (e.g. order another UI)?

Answer:

You can add items to your license container and activate them in a very flexible way.

Question:

What happens if the license breaks because the dongle or platform got destroyed?

Answer:

You can recover your license once. Previously used containers will be blacklisted.

What is the S7+ driver licensing model like?

The underlying S7DOS layer counts total connections to unique IP addresses (of PLC Communication Processors CPs).

The pool of licensed connections is shared with every SIMATIC software on the same computer.

Therefore online connections from TIA Portal or any other WinCC at the same time will reduce the remaining licenses for WinCC OA and vice versa.

But even if you have parallel connections to the same PLC (same IP address) with multiple products on the same computer (e.g. TIA Portal & WinCC OA) they will be counted as one licensed connection on S7DOS.

See attached a small table to calculate the licenses for your needs.

We have also added H-PLC even if we know they are currently not available.
