Summary and relevant links
In addition to the concept of archiving value changes to the History DB (database integrated in WinCC OA), you can also archive data to a relational database (currently, you can only use Oracle for archiving).
Alerts are also archived to the RDB. This means that all data (value changes and alerts) is stored in the same database. A dedicated Manager triggers archiving of data and the data is sent to the RDB through a special interface.
Some of the functions offered by the RDB Archive Manager are create new tables, back-up and delete completed archive sets and set backup time and file size.
Of course, the RDB archiving concept also allows saving compressed values (for example, 5-minute values or hourly and daily values).
