Licensing Errors
If a license error was detected, check the PVSS_II.log file on the server for more information. Below you can find a description of the log messages.
All WinCC OA Licensing error messages are of type "Invalid license" or "License information" .
General Errors
- A license contains a maintenance period. If the build date of a WinCC OA version (e.g. a new patch update) is younger than the maintenance period, the project
cannot be started with the WinCC OA license. The following log message is written. Contact ETM to obtain a new license.
WCCILevent (0), <date time>, SYS, SEVERE, 105, Invalid license, Software Update Service expired. WinCC OA build date: <date time>
- If the license server cannot be reached the following log message is written.
WCCILevent (0), <date time>, SYS, SEVERE, 105, Invalid license, CodeMeter descriptor check for event (9921) returned: CodeMeter License Server not found, Error 101.
- The following log message occurs when a UI license is retrieved and the container is
unreachable.

- If a license has been re-hosted or the license dongle has been removed, at the next cyclic check (after a maximum of 10 minutes) the following log messages are written:
WCCILevent (0), <date> 16:41:21.039, SYS, SEVERE, 105, Invalid license, CodeMeter descriptor check for event (9921) returned: An invalid handle was specified, Error 106. WCCILevent (0), <date> 17:01:23.029, SYS, SEVERE, 105, Invalid license, Disabling para-license because cyclic license check found no valid license WCCILevent (0), <date> 17:01:23.029, SYS, WARNING, 105, Invalid license, 10050 minutes left. WCCOAui (1), <date> 17:01:23.029, SYS, FATAL, 105/_errors, Invalid license, Shutdown para because it is not licensed
The information "Invalid license, <N> minutes left" is written at each license check (10-minute interval). If the license cannot be restored within 30 minutes, all UI managers with "PARA" option are shut down. This is documented by the log message "Shutdown para because it is not licensed". The system runs in "7-day license mode".
The number of invalid handle messages depends on which license options were pulled from the running project.
- If a network error occurs when using a license server, the log message below is written. The behavior afterwards is the same as for re-hosted licenses: 7 days grace period and the
remaining time is displayed every 10 minutes until the WinCC OA Event Manager shuts
down.
WCCILevent (0), <date time>, SYS, SEVERE, 105, Invalid license, CodeMeter descriptor check for event (9921) returned: CodeMeter License Server not found, Error 101.
- The license was activated again. On the next cyclic check (after maximum of 10 minutes) or on applying any value change to _Event.ReadLicense, the following message indicates a
valid license:
WCCILevent (0), <date time>, SYS, INFO, 108, License information, License recovery was successful - all CodeMeter descriptors are valid
License option Errors
- If a license option is not available, the following log message is written. In this example a license for the WinCC OA feature "recipe" is missing. Purchase a
license or activate a license by using the license ticket ID - see chapter License Activation with Online PC.

use.
